Greater Manchester Police updates

A man will appear in court after a car was stolen from a driveway in Salford.

Officers were called at about 7pm on Monday 16 August 2021 to Moss Lane in Walkden, to reports a blue BMW had been stolen.

The owner of the car was approached by two men, who arrived in a car armed with machetes and wearing balaclavas.

Emdadur Rahman, 24, of Glenby Way in Chadderton will appear at Manchester Crown Court on 22 September 2021 charged with robbery and possession of bladed article in a public place. He remains in custody.

Police release images of men they'd like to speak to, following an assault in Manchester

On Sunday 23 May 2021, just before 1:30am, a man in his late 20s was assaulted by two men at the Golden Tandoori takeaway, on Great Ancoats Street.

He was restrained and punched several times, before he was hit over the face with a glass wine bottle, and suffered serious facial injuries as a result.

GMP officers are keen to trace the men pictured and are asking for anyone who might recognise them, or hav/e any information about the circumstances of what happened, to get in touch.

Lancashire prepare for Vitality Blast Quarter-Final

Lancashire has qualified for 14 Blast quarter-finals, the most of any county.

The Red Rose hold another record in English T20 cricket. Their eight Finals Day appearances are already the most of the 18 counties. Now it is about them adding to the most important statistic, turning one title into two.

Manchester City transfer target Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham

Manchester City have been keen to sign Harry Kane. The England captain believed had a gentleman's agreement with chairman Daniel Levy to leave Spurs this summer.

It has been reported that Daniel Levy refused to enter into negotiations for the striker.

Kane tweeted: "It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks. 

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success. #COYS"

Music news

Manchester and the rest of the world remembers Charlie Watts

Everyone at Greater Manchester News and Culture was saddened by the death of Charlie Watts. The Rolling Stones drummer had played in Manchester on several occasions.

In 2019, they performed at Old Trafford the home of Manchester United. Were you in attendance?

Going back further in town, a gig at Belle Vue from the 1970s is often widely thought of by fans of the band. Watch the video below to hear a rendition of Gimme Shelter from that memorable night.
