Man charged with murder after man dies in Bolton

A man appeared in court after being charged with murder in Bolton. Robert Owen Greenhalgh (27/7/1990), of no fixed abode, appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court charged in connection with the death of Robert Smethurst. 

He is also charged with a section 47 assault.

Officers were called at about 1.30am on Thursday 2 September to reports a man was unconscious in a bar on Bradshawgate in Bolton town centre.

Mr Smethurst, 36, of Farnworth, was treated at the scene by police officers and NWAS paramedics but died later at hospital.

His wife Amanda added: "My husband and father to our two beautiful angels was the most loving, selfless and supportive man.

"Our family and friends have been utterly destroyed by his loss."

Justin Moorhouse announced as headliner for charity comedy night

On Wednesday 24th November (6pm-10pm), local community charity Forever Manchester will be once again hosting our Forever Funny Comedy Night at Manchester’s Frog and Bucket Comedy Club.

The night will feature four great comedy acts (headlined by Justin Moorhouse) and is the perfect opportunity for a staff night out, or a catch-up with friends, whilst supporting Forever Manchester.

Salford Red Devils lose in Magic Weekend clash against Castleford Tigers

Castleford Tigers opened the 2021 Magic Weekend with a hard-fought Super League victory over out-of-form Salford Red Devils at St James' Park.

Paul McShane and Daniel Smith scored either side of Ken Sio's try for Salford as Castleford led early on.

Joe Burgess levelled before Oliver Holmes put Cas on top at the break and Jordan Turner extended their lead.

Ata Hingano put Salford back in it before Peter Mata'utia supplemented his work with the boot with a late Cas try.

Protesting fans and another defeat for Oldham Athletic

A pitch invasion by protesting Oldham Athletic fans held up their 3-0 defeat against Barrow for three minutes.

Shortly after the hour mark the supporters - angry at the running of the club - ran onto the pitch, with some opting to sit in the centre circle before referee Carl Boyeson moved the players off the pitch.
