The Salford Star has closed after 15 years of giving the Salford community a voice, holding power to account and "bigging up" all the great things that have happened in the city.

The independent publication has left behind an archive of over 6,300 online articles and ten print magazines, which are almost a real time document of the history of the city since 2006.
The website is to be archived in the British Library and we are in discussions about placing the physical archive at the Working Class Movement Library where research for the creation of the Star began. The website as it stands will be live for at least ten years.
Social media reaction and other comments
News of the closure has resulted in a huge amount of comments, both on the website and on social media.
One reader said: "This is one falling star i never wanted to see . so sad to see the only place to get the real news and no bull being pushed to the ground just when i think we need it and stephen and his peopple the most. many thanx to you all in the star you are true stars in salford .. stay safe and keep fighting..."
Another said: Thank you, to everyone at The Star, for all you’ve done. Much love to all x"
Seeing all the posts about how sad it is to see @salfordstar09 go and we totally agree. The Star was always there providing coverage of the battles fought by ourselves and others who have fought for a fairer Salford. We wish Stephen, Steve and everyone else involved all the best.
