Rochdale fan runs to all 92 Football League grounds

A Rochdale fan is thought to be the first person to run to all 92 league grounds in England and Wales.

Nathan Richardson completed the epic charity challenge on Saturday at Rochdale's stadium.

The 30-year-old former soldier set off in March last year but was delayed by repeated Covid restrictions.

Nathan said to a number of media outlets: "I got the idea after speaking to a Burnley fan who was running to all his away games. So I thought I'd run to all the grounds.

"I have done my research and nobody has ever done it. It was amazing and I'm thrilled to have done it."

Nathan departed from Old Trafford but his journey was halted at Macclesfield Town during England's first lockdown.

He eventually got moving again over the summer before completing the feat over a year later.

The tweet below includes a link to donate to Nathan's chosen charities. He has has raised almost £8,000 for Mind and the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.

When he started the challenge, he spoke about his reasons for taking on the epic quest:

"The prospect of being the first person to ever do this inspired me to take on this challenge. Furthermore, it was going to be an amazing opportunity (and excuse) to see the country. There are two motivating factors for this challenge.

"Firstly, my personal motivation is to challenge myself physically and mentally. But more importantly, I want to encourage and inspire people to get out running so they can have the same success I have had in battling demons through exercise.

"I want to encourage and stimulate discussion about mental health by raising awareness through fundraising for ‘Mind’, a charity that helps people who are struggling with mental health problems. I will also be fundraising for ‘Super Josh’ which is a great charity based in Bury, where I was born. The Super Josh charity does some incredible work helping children and their families who have brain tumours and post-surgery disabilities."
