The easing of lockdown to be delayed by four weeks

The last few coronavirus rules will stay in place in England for another four weeks after the planned 21 June unlocking.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson believes that more time needed to combat the Delta variant and allow more people to be vaccinated.

No 10 says it is confident there is going to be no need for further delay or for new restrictions to be imposed and said that was born out by the modelling, which suggested hospitalisations could be reduced significantly by the additional vaccines.

These moves delay the lifting of all remaining restrictions until Monday July 19, and although the next bit of data will be reviewed after two weeks. No 10 says it expected that restrictions won't change either way.

Latest figures

On 14 June, 7,742 new cases and 3 deaths within 28 days of a positive test were reported across the UK.

41,698,429 people have now received the first dose of a #vaccine. 29,973,779 have received a 2nd dose.
