Volunteer Week 2021

This week is Volunteers Week and we are going to celebrate all of those who keep our communities going.

Volunteering

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service

Throughout the pandemic GMFRS and GMCA volunteers have provided more than 4,000 hours of support to the Greater Manchester response to COVID-19. This is a significant amount of the nearly 16,000 combined hours of Humanitarian Aid provided jointly by their volunteers, staff and operational crews.

Their volunteers have been involved in a number of COVID-19 activities including PPE distribution, marshaling at vaccination and test centres, supporting local authorities contacting vulnerable residents, encouraging people to take tests during surge testing and conducting lateral flow tests so that pupils and staff could return to school safely.

Charities

Charities across Greater Manchester have been a lifeline for everyone in our communities, especially during the pandemic and resulting lockdown.

Forever Manchester is a charity that funds and supports community activity across Greater Manchester. They have been highlighting some of those key volunteers throughout the area.

Local football

Volunteers have also kept our local football clubs going.

The likes of Bury AFC and Avro FC rely on volunteers as they don't have the luxury of spending millions on new staff and players. Read more about Bury AFC here

You will also see that FC United of Manchester has a group called "The Diggers" which helps keep the club's area nice and tidy.
