We're (maybe) going to Ibiza...

It is being reported that many European countries are tightening entry restrictions on unvaccinated Britons

It is believed that to visit many places in and around Spain, British visitors will either have to be fully vaccinated or present a negative Covid test for entry from 2 July,. This follows a month of no restrictions.

Ibiza

It had previously been announced that Malta was tightening its rules to say it would only admit vaccinated British travellers aged 12 and over. This effectively ends any hope of a family holiday; while Portugal demands quarantine from those who have not been jabbed.

Meanwhile, hopes are disappearing for US-UK travel to restart before the end of the summer. According to reports, travel between the two nations is unlikely to resume anytime soon, despite intense pressure from airlines and lobby groups.

Travel between the US and the UK, usually a thriving market, has essentially been frozen since March 2020.

The reaction

As expected the announcement and resulting media coverage have had a huge reaction.

We spoke to a number of people on the streets of Manchester:

One man said: "Fair enough in my opinion. We'll have our family holiday in the UK this summer. Supporting UK hospitality should be the priority and the message now."

Mary, a 28 year old woman was more critical. She argued: I think it's time we opened up the world again. These restrictions could end up going on forever."
