Libraries across Manchester are counting down the days to Monday, 19 July when they can finally return to offering a normal service to all their customers.
Customers will once again be able to sit, study and relax in libraries with most of the furniture being put back in place.
Hand sanitiser will continue to be provided at each library and library users will be encouraged to wear a face covering during their visit.
Councillor Rabnawaz Akbar, executive member for Neighbourhoods said:
“Libraries are a lifeline to so many people who do not have alternative ways of using the Internet, with everything that brings – from connecting to friends and family, doing online shopping, applying for jobs, and accessing public services online."
Of course, they are also home to many great books and Greater Manchester News and Culture believes it's time to get Manchester reading again.
What's your favourite book?
Most people love to sit down with a good book. For some, this is an adventure or a drama. For others it's an autobiography from one of their football or sporting heroes.
Sophie, 28 from Middleton, said: "I love the Terry Pratchett books!"
Olivia, a Primary School teacher from Didsbury, said: "Getting kids into reading is so important. Libraries being open again in time for the summer holidays will be a massive lifeline for so many families. There is something for everyone there. My favourite book is American Gods by Neil Gaiman."
Ken from Manchester said: "I love a Roy Keane's autobiography. It's a great insight into of United's greatest ever players.
Most Libraries have been closed March 2020. In July 2020, when the government allowed libraries to reopen, Manchester opened seven of its 22 libraries opened on that first day. This number steadily increased and there are currently 21 libraries open.
